Instructor, Paramedic, BS – Emergency Medical Care

Michael Crater is the Director of Polk Co. (NC) EMS.  Polk County is located about 1/2 way between Asheville, NC & Spartanburg, SC on I-26.
Michael has been with Polk Co. in various roles including Supervisor & Training Officer for over 20 yrs.
Following his tenure as Training Officer Michel remained at PCEMS as a Part-time Paramedic while taking the reigns of Isothermal Comm. College as the EMS & Fire Coordinator, growing that EMS Educational program there to all time new heights and growing the Paramedic Educational program to become one of the most respected programs in SW NC.
While at Isothermal Comm. College Michael was asked to return to Polk Co. EMS as it’s director, he has been at Polk Co. since 2013.
Michael is a graduate of Western Carolina Univ. with a BS in Emerg. Medical Care in 1994, he has been an Inst. for NAEMT’s PHTLS since 1994 & was one of the Original Pilot Inst. for AAP’s PEPP Course in NC. He has been an AHA Inst. at all levels since 1994 & is a past Reg. Fac. member and Training Center Coordinator, was an original CONTOMS “SWAT MEDIC” students, also in 1994 when the course was taught through the US Parks Police.
Michael serves PreMed as an ITLS, AMLS, PHTLS, ACLS-EP & National Registry Instructor, as well as an evaluator for National Registry exams.
